Summit Education Association
Representing the teachers, secretaries and custodians of the Summit school district

UPDATED 12/24/08

Please see our updated FAQs for important information.

The SEA is the professional organization that represents the Summit teachers, secretaries and custodians. This takes the form of negotiating the contract, enforcement and professional assistance to members.

This web site has been created for the benefit of the community to provide additional information and help it understand our position in the current negotiations.

Following the expiration of our contract on August 30 and 10 negotiating sessions with the Summit Board of Education, an impasse was declared. On Dec. 10, a first meeting was held between the SEA and the Board with the participation of a mediator, Timothy A. Hundley, appointed by the Public Employment Relations Commission. A second meeting is scheduled for Jan. 19.

The Board is demanding significant give-backs in the contract, especially in the area of health benefits.

The SEA encourages community members to help facilitate the process by contacting Board members and encouraging them to negotiate in good faith.

The SEA does not represent or negotiate on behalf of district principals or administrators.
