Out-Of-Pocket Medical Expenses
We recently asked members to report their annual medical expenses. Here are some of their responses:
Teacher 1: In just dental alone last year I spent approximately $2,500 out of pocket.
Teacher 2: I have already spent my flexible spending plan money of $2,500 and I need to get glasses which will be $600. Other co-pays not included in the flexible-spending plan is about $600 for my husband and I.
Teacher 3: About $2,000.
Teacher 4: I paid about $1,600 out of pocket for health care last year. This includes prescriptions, eye care, dental and mental health for my husband and I.
Teacher 5: I spent $475 on non-covered dental costs and about $1,200 on other medical/eye care costs.
Teacher 6: Last year our medical, dental and pharmacy out-of-pocket costs were about $12,500.
Teacher 7: Out-of-pocket medical expenses were $1,222 and dental was $3,670..
Teacher 8: I spent approximately $10,000 out of pocket towards dental, orthodontics and eye care this year.
Teacher 9: An estimate of my out-of-pocket expenses (dental, vision, etc.) is between $4,000 and $5,000.
Teacher 10: $3,500 dental, $2,000 medical and $1,500 Rx.
Teacher 11: My husband and I spent about $6,000. He has his own coverage (Oxford) and we use my coverage to pick up any "overage." This past year was a bit high because I had extensive dental work done over the summer.
Teacher 12: $3,000 for orthodontia. $2,500 for contact lenses and glasses.
Teacher 13: My approximate out-of-pocket expenses for me and my family is $1,070.
Teacher 14: I have spent about $2,000 this year alone on various health care needs.
Teacher 15: I spent approximately $1,300 in orthodontic bills.
Teacher 16: Approximately $2,000 out of pocket.
Teacher 16: $800.
Teacher 17: I regularly spend a minimum of $1,500 each year based on my health care reimbursement account receipts.
Teacher 18: My medical out-of-pocket to date, not including dental, is $829.17.
Teacher 19: I spent a little over $500 last year for glasses and contacts.
Teacher 20: I probably spend around $100.
Teacher 21: About $1,600.
Teacher 22: A total of $345.
Teacher 23: It costs $190 a month for my son's dental. This began in July and will be for two years. I also paid almost $1,000 for new glasses for the three of us.
Teacher 25: I spend about $300 annually for chiropractic care directly related to my teaching duties. I also have about $1,200 in dental debt for work performed this year.
Teacher 26: I've spent about $700 so far on dental care this year after exceeding our maximum.
Teacher 27: Out of pocket for me last year was around $3,000.
Teacher 28: My co-pays, uncovered parts of dental and my medical was about $800 for the year, and I am single (no family).
